Raindrops Keep Fallin'...in Vienna
When we arrived in Vienna it was cold, damp, and gloomy. As we walked into St. Stephan’s Cathedral the sound of the church organ mingled with the pattering of the rain and as my eyes slowly adjusted to the dim lighting I was momentarily transported from 2011 to approximately 1450, sans whatever plagues may have been raging at the time. This was Vienna, not at its best but at its most atmospheric. Church bells pealed through the rain, shops offered shelter and a few extra pounds concealed in delicious confectionaries, and let’s not forget the pigeons which were pretty much everywhere. The rain, cold, and pigeons all added to the feeling of Vienna. From hearing the Messiah echoing throughout a vast cathedral to simply roaming the streets of Austria the experience was like no other.
